Láhev (The Bottle)

Today’s entry from the Petr Oprsal archive brings us a piece of flash fiction that straddles the line between gritty realism and surreal horror. Titled “The Bottle” this piece offers a glimpse into Oprsal’s ability to turn a mundane scene of despair into something fantastically twisted.

What makes this post particularly special is that it preserves Petr’s own typing and his specific English translation. The voice here is distinct – simultaneously cynical and tragic.

The story begins with a classic archetype: the drunk in the pub. However, as the protagonist stumbles out into the “dancing trees” and “lightning-fast benches,” the narrative shifts. It moves from a social observation of alcoholism into a literal manifestation of consumption. It is a vivid reminder that sometimes, we don’t just finish the bottle; the bottle finishes us.
